I'd rather people start accepting more diversity in others, than have them: 1) first be shocked that some significant difference exists, and 2) latch on to those differences as justification for unethical treatment of others.

It's hard to anticipate which attitude going in would produce a better outcome. Keep in mind, though, that the dynamics may be very different at the time that these revelations occur. For example, the current majority race may no longer be the majority. That would affect how people and politics react to such info.

Regarding differences as a moral issue, is there any difference that that would be significant enough to justify different treatment of the ethical kind? I don't think so. I don't think you think so. I think you and I are still stuck on what are the differences. I do not deny that there are differences. You'd have to be blind to deny that there are obvious differences. But no difference can be considered material from a moral point of view. If we downplay differences by treating them as merely practical considerations rather than ethical ones, I think we have things covered. Practical considerations can be dealt with in the cosmetics department or the playing field or the furniture design shop or the doctor's office, where they matter. To me there is theoretical soundness and advantage in framing differences as practical rather than ethical matters rather than debating whether or not there are differences. In my view, all differences, whatever they may be or come to be in the future, are practically material and ethically immaterial.
