One sees these things every so often, and it does cause unwarranted attention, being that it is so out of character for the mining industry press (including newsletter writers). More often than not, they don't mention bad stuff as it has a way of affecting their businesses in an adverse way.
Strangely, too, I used to have occasional e-mail correspondence with some of these people on various subjects, but when I questioned them on neglecting to mention gravely serious concerns about some companies they covered with favorable comments, the exchanges stopped. In my experience, then, the press and almost all newsletter writers are no reliable source of DD at all, at least without personal follow-up.
As an aside, have you all seen what happened to the founder of CBS MarketWatch.com after he caused thousands of people to take losses totaling in the millions? If you recall, he was accused of trading on his recommendations - all, or mostly all mining stocks -, sometimes after being allowed to first buy steeply discounted shares. Well, he was ordered to pay a small fine and gets NO OTHER punishment. |
