Harvey, thanks for the item by Ericsson and Lars. Speak of the Devil! Well, they knew that CDMA couldn't work. They said [via Bill Frezza] that Qualcomm was a fraud. In fact, what have they said that is actually correct? Not satisfied, they now pronounce on their latest findings.

For example, they say:

"Low-energy Ericsson cell-phones have a maximum effect comparable to a small flashlight. Scientific tests have shown that a long telephone conversation can't increase body temperature by more than 0.1 degree Celsius. This effect is insignificant compared to normal variations of body temperature."

What stupid things to say! Because a flashlight can be shown to produce neglible cancer they cannot conclude that PCS photons in your brain do not. Skin is designed to protect you against photons. Skin produces melanin, for a start, and no doubt it has special repair mechanisms too to back that up. There are black people. They are not black so that they can be readily identified as potential basketball players, rap artists or beneficiaries of racist affirmative action programs where the un-needy ones with high ability or who own businesses get taxes given to them because they have got melanin defences against ultraviolet light! They are black so that they don't die from sun on their skin.

Brains have not evolved for photon doses from just beside your head! Natural pre-technology microwave radiation was much lower than that. No doubt brains don't have very good resistance or that great a repair method. A bit like white people who evolved in Sweden have nice white hair and pink skin. They don't do too well in Niger. I guess when people have all used cellphones long enough they will evolve brown brains to protect them against tumors. Those who die don't want to be the contributors to evolution!!!

Then they say "scientific tests". What drivel. Using "scientific" to throw the cloak of respectability around a silly test. A 0.1 deg C body temperature rise! That is an enormous temperature increase in bulk measurement. So what was the impact on the chemical reaction energy at the carcinogen/DNA conjunction site when the photon wave comingled with the relevant electron wave energy? We need scientific tests on a nano scale, not a dirty great thermocouple shoved in some poor person's or animal's brain.

Lars is going to do more independent tests since the public are worried. I wonder why if they KNOW and have the evidence that there is no harm? Maybe they don't actually have adequate evidence. They are tacitly acknowledging that they are using absence of evidence as evidence of absence. What we DO know is that the risk is relatively low compared with thousands of others risks in people's lives; I guess below eating bread crusts. And certainly well below eating fried or barbecued bacon and sausages.

CELLPHONES CAUSE CANCER IN PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE WRONG DNA/CARCINOGEN COMBINATION WHEN THE PHOTON FLIES!
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A BROWN BRAIN, OR HAVEN'T CHECKED, MINIMIZE YOUR RISK, BUY CDMA. It saves batteries too!

Lars and Tora Tora Tora must know that this is another GSM weakness and they are trying to avoid a stampede to CDMA.

PS: I used to think that the risk was negligible. I still think so. I argued it was wrong to advertize a false risk to frighten people into buying a cellphone. That is false advertising and I would say fraudulent. But it is fair to quote the radiation absorption people would get from a particular phone used in normal circumstances so that they can be informed of the effects on themselves. They can then determine whether they are happy with the risk.

Ericsson-type blanket statements with little substance are phoney.

Qualcomm/CDMA Development Group should stop ignoring the concerns and fund research. I think Qualcomm should do it themselves since they are the intellectual property holders collecting royalties. Come on Qualcomm, prove how much damage there actually is. We know it is fewer than 1 in 10. Not even 1 in 1000! Hardly 1 in 10 000. Or is it? Even 1 in 100 000 is going to be 1000s of dead people when everyone is using a Qualcomm Q-Phone.
