You guys are VASTLY underestimating the cost ot Intel's margins of a wholesale abandonment of single core chips.

Even a 2.8 GHz dual core is at the cutting edge of what is achievable within the absurd 130w power envelope. I would estimate that less than 50% of functional Smithfield parts will even reach the 2.8 GHz binsplit level. And the functional dies will only be 50% of total dies, and total dies will only be 40% of Prescott dies.

Intel cannot manufacture 45M Smithfields in a quarter, period.
