The "elections" will no doubt end up being the precipitating factor for a civil war and the ensuing recriminations and punishments for those who supported Saddam will produce chaos.

Back before we invaded, we were told that we'd be welcomed as rescuers. I indicated then, if there aren't regular airplane operations out of Baghdad International within 30 days, then this war will last years and not months. Sadly that prediction's premise (regular operations) was true and the conclusion is now true. This is not something I like being right about.

My next prediction: As the Sunnis lose power and it is transferred to the Pro-Iranian Shiites, we'll have an escalation of violence and increased chaos for the Americans trying to hold Iraq. Bush will have to choose between a humiliating withdrawal (which I don't think he has the stones to do) OR an expanded military presence in country. Because he can't admit he is ever wrong on important matters, he'll choose the latter. This is also something I won’t like being right about.
