Either way, France, Germany, and Europe has a changing demographic basis that is increasingly looking Muslim. They have to do a good job at assimilating these Muslims and inculcating them into a moderate, religiously tolerant culture. Otherwise, Europe will become the next battle ground after the Middle East.

For Europe to not be actively engaged in ensuring democracy comes to the Middle East is incredible short-sighted and self-destructive. Bush has not given them room to save face, so I can understand their desire to see Bush fail, but if Europe had any truly great leaders, they would become the better men and join with the U.S. to solve Iraq and the other intractable problems in the Middle East, like Iran and Palestine.
