"Andy once hit a suspect in order to find a child who was about to be killed by a serial rapist." It is pointless to use an example of torture that does not pass the point of endurance for the tortured. Most people can endure suffering to the point that no permanent harm has been inflicted and then only if it is some type of harm that the tortured cannot imagine continuing in life having to carry. Of course there is no point in even referring to the category of torture if the victim is not convinced it will continue beyond their tolerable level. If Andy picked the wrong person to interrogate in this manner and that person suffered irreparable harm that caused them to later commit suicide or live out their time as someone who viewed their life as not worth living ... would you feel the same ... even if the person who suffered were your child? Most interrogations of this kind are not successful, many times because the person being interrogated simply doesn't have the information.
