The first, extraordinarily violent, coupling in "The Fountainhead" of Howard Roark with Dominique Francon is not a general prescription for the relationship between the sexes but merely Rand's own erotic fantasy ("wishful thinking," she once announced, to the cheers of a delighted crowd)

I once got a libertarian female friend to read the Fountainhead as an introduction to Rand. She got to the "seduction" part and never read another page of Ayn Rand. It's funny to think that not so long ago "Luke and Laura" were American housewives' dream romance - a woman who fell in love with her rapist. How the world has changed.
