are you going to share with us how you can award such unconditional praise to Byrd despite his obvious, er, rough edges?

Senator Byrd was born in 1920 in West Virginia. His mother died a year later. He was raised by his aunt and uncle during the depressions years. He was valedictorian of his high school, but did not immediately go on to college because of economic reasons. It took him ten years of night school while a member of Congress to earn his law degree.

His views on race were inherited from people living in communities where coal mining was the major source of income. His views were consistent with the local community where he grew up during the depression.

He would have been a real odd ball, if his views were radically different. But since then he has recognized his mistake. He has stated that many times and I believe him.

Not only that, but I believe converts have a greater understanding than those people that have views handed to them.

There is no doubt that he loves his country.
