Yeah, read that a while back in one of the mainstream science outlets. Not a good thing, IMO. Apparently many of the vaccination products have been contaminated with cross-species proteins as well.

It reminds me of a SciFi episode a long time ago: there was a creature on one of the Star Trek series (Next Generation or Deep Space 9, I think) that had some sort of creeping grunge that caused its skin to come off. They were always going around abducting other species to harvest tissues because the virus would adapt to whatever they covered themselves in.
