China takes reconstruction projects in tsunami-hit countries

China's reconstruction work in tsunami-hit countries is in full swing at the invitation of victim countries, as learned from the Ministry of Commerce.

The Chinese government has confirmed the taking of a batch of reconstruction projects, including building makeshift schools and establishing earthquake monitoring and tsunami warning systems for Indonesia, constructing makeshift houses for Thailand and civil houses for Maldives and repairing fishing ports for Sri Lanka.

The government has sent three special teams to these countries to assess the current situations, who are conducting investigations under harsh conditions so as to provide first-hand data for plan making.

Chinese embassies in tsunami-affected countries are also actively organizing local Chinese companies in reconstruction work. Some China-funded companies, including China Geo-engineering Corporation, China Harbor Engineering Company, Beijing Municipal Engineering Corporation and China National Overseas Engineering Corporation, are helping road and bridge repairs by providing mechanical equipment, and other Chinese companies are offering help by donating money.
