Heard today that hamas had won some gaza council elections. Not as bad a thing as we might initially feel. I have always felt that the war between arab and jew could only truly end if israel and the militants(kinder word for the moment) began to communicate. Hamas is terrorist but it is not global terrorist in the al quaeda sense. Their goal is equity for the Pal people and adherence to islam but not wahabi as i understand it. They currently define equity as destruction of israel. Now they are vested in government. They have a constituency that includes as many secular folks as religious. The aims of many of these people are not nearly as revanchist as hamas. Does Hamas ever produce its version of Jerry Adams or at least go along with the political folks like abbas. Do they ever talk to israel? No seems likely but i maintain stranger things have happened. mike
