As I know I have told you before, the most exhilarating investing experience of my life was in the first half of 1975, I guess it was. I had almost no money, but had painfully set aside a few hundred dollars a month for 3-4 years in a tax-sheltered annuity (as it was called--a 403b). The "fixed" fund paid 7.25% annually, which seemed pretty good, esepcially tax free. But as 1974 drew to a close I gradually moved all my money from the fixed to the variable, and six months after my final transfer I had a gain of about 50%. Guess what! My net worth had gone from about $7,500 to an astronomical $12,000. I felt smart and rich!
