Serena Williams was incredible ... tenacious .....

.......... She beat Maria Sharapova in the semis and now Lindsay Davenport in the finals on sheer will. If she stays in good shape she could go on a bit of a run. If Maria develops some better nerves of steel, though, we could get a serious rivalry here.

Maybe the two Belgians will come back into the mix.

This has been a very enjoyable Australian Open. It was too bad to see Andy Roddick's collapse today. But to see an Australian like Lleyton Hewitt rally his countrymen has been great.

I loved what Mary Carillo had to say about Hewitt: "Let's face it. This guy .... he really is the classic Davis Cup player. He's got great intensity. He likes to make his opponents suffer. He's very much in the now. He's emotionally durable ... and with him it's personal.... He gets his opponents twice. He provokes the errors from them and then he celebrates them."

Alicia Molik of Australia, a bit of a risktaker, made a great comment after beating Venus Williams to get to the quarter-finals in a major championship for the first time: "Don't die wondering. That's my motto." I might have to adopt that one for myself. Especially living here in Bushworld.

ESPN's coverage of the Australian Open has been fabulous.
