<Does he have $50B more energy, talent, and charm than, lets say, you?>
Mary, yes he has. And we have a good way of measuring it = $$$
Like most measuring systems, it's not perfect. Weighing things is only an approximation too. But it's as good as we have.
$$$ are a voting method. People have looked at what I offer and voted with their dollars. People have looked at what $ill offered and gave him umpty $$billions. Ipso facto, he has provided more of what people want than I have, by a longgggggg way.
Provision of stuff to get into the voting competition takes energy to get up and go and battle through problems to find solutions and make things happen. Talent is required because without knowledge, brainpower, insight and imagination, all the energy in the world is useless. Charm is also needed because an energetic, talented, but nasty piece of work will not find allies prepared to work with them to produce the goods. The ability to integrate with other people is essential.
Megalomaniacs like Yiwu the Mad, are charmless creatures who can only get action at the point of a gun. Action at the point of a gun is no way to get good results. In the USSR, people drank Vodka, kept their heads down, and played chess, if they hadn't been sent to Siberia. Slavery and being whipped isn't conducive to enthusiastic participation to help an energetic, talented thug.
How else would you measure energy, talent and charm? A committee of nice people in the politburo in Moscow who would anoint those they like? Cash paid is a pretty good method. A talented person will apply their talents to something which gets great results. That's part of talent. Wasting their time on a trivial matter, shows less talent.
Of course, as I said, luck plays a big part too.
Anyway, that's my theory I just made up.
