Why a national voting identifier? Voting is mostly local. National elections come once every other year.

I registered to vote with Fairfax County. I like the nice people who work at Voter Registration in Fairfax County. I know some of the poll watchers, too, they are my neighbors.

Just took a look at my voter registration card. Issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Has a unique identifier number, and a blue seal that says "Sic Semper Tyrannis." I could make a duplicate at Kinko's in minutes.

There is no way for the nice people at my polling booth to know whether I am really who I say I am, if I give them a fake ID, except for the fact that at least one of the poll watchers is actually a friend of mine.

But if my unique Virginia number (which is NOT my SS#) was used already by a ringer, and I had to log in to vote, then at least we'd know that my number was already used.
