It's probably more interesting CNN printed the quote at all. It does raise a question that hadn't crossed my mind before. I wonder if any physical evidence survived which shows pitting or embedding by sand or concrete particles?

Some of the debris being ejected had to be moving at a pretty good clip. If memory serves me correctly, RDX type explosives have a velocity in excess of 20K FPS. I'd tend to think a piece of pea gravel traveling at that speed would leave a noticeable dent even in chrome moly steel, and that the dents would be characteristic of high velocity impacts.

Most of the physical evidence was scrubbed, but it might be something that escaped the attention of the scrubbers.
