I think the guaranteed SS has worked. It was never intended to make anyone rich, but it does provide a safety net and that's the best we can provide as a nation. Putting any of the money in the stock market will be a windfall for the investment agencies and a disaster for many of the retirees. THe market corrects itself ever so religiously and an inexperienced investor will get burned by it. Heck, even experienced investors get burned. Pat
