So this weekend the scouts had this camp-out thing in
New Jersey.

It was at the Liberty Science Museum.

The way it worked is that we all showed up Saturday at
6PM when the place closes to the public.

Then they lock us inside and and let us have the place
all to ourselves.

There were about 5 other Packs there. I think one of
them was from Canada because they talked funny.

I told them I know Croc and Rose but they just kept
going on and on about something in French as they pointed
to the huge robotic arm putting together a puzzle.

We got to see two cool movies about science and nature.
Croc would have loved the nature one. Actually she could
have starred in it.

They have this I-Max theater there. Biggest friggin
screen I ever saw. They took us on helicopter rides
through an active volcano. The one down in the carribean
somewhere. It was the one that exploded a few years back
covering the entire village with ash and boulders.

Anyway it was real educational. The kids really dug the
place.

So at night we camped in our sleeping bags amongst the
exhibits.

Kinda neat.

Except we were close to some exhibit that made this little
beeping sound at odd intervals. Was like a dripping
faucet.

Think I slept a total of two hours.

The next morning we had to get up early and get our gear
back into the cars before they opened to the public.

While waiting on line for coffee I bumped into someone
famous.
Do you remember the boxer named Gerry Cooney?
We was the white dude who fought Larry Holmes way back
when.

Anyway the dude must have a young wife and kid in the
cub scouts. He camped out. At 6-foot-5 he must have
needed two sleeping bags.

Whatta nice guy he was.
He posed for pictures and everything.
I think he was sort of happy to be recognized.

He had a really tough dad and wants to make sure his son
gets the quality time that he never got.

They had some rather cool exhibits. The kids really
liked this virtual reality volley ball game. The kid
stands on a blue stage where TV cameras take their
image and through computerization it puts them on a
large screen TV where they compete against a animated
robot in a game of volley ball. The the kid moves back
and forth and jumps all around and the computer matches
the movements with the game play. Way too cool.

This cub scout event turned out to be a lot more fun
that I thought it was going to be.

Next month we camp out on an old aircraft carrier somewhere
in Rhode Island (I think).
