Jimmy Davenport was golden glove every year. Haller was a good catcher and immortalized in a Danny Kaye hit song with the line "The Miller-Hiller-Haller Hallelujah Rag." Of course, Danny was a Dodgers fan, otherwise known as a horrid traitor to humanity, so he didn't like the Giants to look good.

Stu Miller was the top reliever. Mike McCormick was our other great left-hander and he won 22 games in 1957. Bob Schmidt was a catcher. And Leon Wagner, a very nice and not too bright outfielder. Bill White, whom we traded for Sad Sam Jones, was one of the best players I've ever seen. Later became National League President. He used to kill the Giants when he played them after the trade.

There was a guy named Andre Rodgers who played second base and led the league in errors. I remember Sad Sam Jones losing a no-hitter because the batter hit the ball at Andre and he
muffed it. The scorer was booed, but he later made the comment that batters hit the ball to Rodgers because they knew they would get to first safe, so it was a hit. <G>

There was another Willie, too. Willie Kirkland.
