This is an exciting and promising trend to overcome the First/Last Mile bottleneck for American businesses and raise the network utilization including long haul.

Many local governments are also doing the same for their residents - by fiber (UTOPIA, Mississippi, ...), by wireless (Philadelphia, ...) with their municipal powers even though the RBOCs are doing everything to prevent that happens and maintain their monopoly.
