Elroy, My understanding is not correct? No, it isn't. The hostility is fostered not because Israel isn't a tolerant nation. The hostility is fostered because the power-mongers in the neighboring lands realize that the only unifying force they have is their common hatred of Israel. It's a great way to divert the attention away from the real problem. The Palestinians are merely pawns. No one gave a rat's ass about them until they became the perfect rallying point for anti-Israel sentiment. Prosperity may make people more respectful and less likely to fight, but I hardly think the Saudis and Kuwaitis love the Israelis any more than the Jordanians or the Syrians. You forget the very basic step that allowed the creation of Israel. The Zionists were given Arab land. It started in bad blood and its likely to continue in that vein for quite some time. The US made a mistake back in 1947 and its perpetuated that mistake over the last 50 years. Israel might be able to achieve a relative peace with its neighbors by giving the Palestinians their freedom. However, I think it will take centuries before there is true peace between Israel and the rest of the ME. ted
