Jack, >> If you were putting away $25K for your son's retirement, which way would you go?
If I was going to invest "passively", that is pretty much leave it alone for a number of years, I would avoid individual stocks, and put the money in an index fund or T. Rowe Price Science & Tech. I happen to own MAPX in my own retirement account, but that is a fairly active account where I can trade without immediate tax consequences. I doubt very much that I will still be holding MAPX in "n" years (where "n" is the number of years until I retire).
>>Long-term, SOLUTIONS will ascend, and MAPICS will gradually descend.
Only if the actual Marcam Solutions products are good! (Are they? I have no idea.) Running on NT in and of itself does not guarantee survival, never mind success. BTW, I upgraded my machine at work to NT recently. Not too painful, but hardly simple, and I have been able to crash it several times (and I mean the whole machine, stopped dead, not just one task.)
