First the herbicide/soil balance problems have nothing to do with the type of seed used. When I had my problem Roundup hadn't been invented. Needed 200 pounds of Molybdenum spread over 300 acres.

Farmers use Roundup Ready beans because they're easier to grow. The old way needed more tillage passes, herbicide put down at planting and the walking the beans to pull weeds the herbicide didn't stop. Now it's minimum tillage which leads to less soil erosion, plant the beans and wait until everything comes up and then one pass with Roundup and you're done until harvest. BTW, the old herbicides lasted a long time, Roundup breaks down on contact with the soil.
