Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't spending and investing two distintly DIFFERENT behaviors? Usually one or the other is predominant at a given time.

The boomers are investing, INSTEAD of spending because they're realizing that their spending habits of the last 10-15 years were painting a bleak picture of retirement.

Or do they have SO much money, they can afford to spend AND invest at unprecented rates?
