You're absolutely right. The laws should be more like : If you smoke, we won't treat your lung cancer. If you eat badly on purpose, forget those dialysis treatments. If you use alcohol to excess, and burn out your liver, you can kiss that liver transplant goodbye...

I'm absolutely 100% for allowing adults to off themselves as quickly as possible, but for efficiencies sake, we really shouldn't be spending pooled society money on folks who injured their health on purpose. Right?

And as for smoking, no getting that disgusting smoke in other people's airspace. That's an assault. Smokers can kill themselves, but they should die alone. They don't get to take nonsmokers out with them, any more than sugarholics get to force feed other people sugar, or alcoholics get to pour liquor down the throats of people who happen to be sitting in the vicinity.
