Once the definite threats of terrorism and SS shortfalls are
considered and corrected in some manner, IMO the oil consumption problem must be considered.

In one way it is under consideration, with our actions in Afghanistan and Iraq intended to stabilize oil production in the region and to make possible the construction of energy pipelines across that region.

And with subsidizing of alternate fueled vehicles.

But here we see that the entire production of oil by Norway, UK, Denmark , Germany, the Netherlands is 5.98 MM BBD. While the US is consuming 20 mm bpd or greater than 3 times their entire combined production. And Chinas demands will accelerate.

Natural gas, which is being brought here from Europe and elsewhere, is a partial solution to feed our utility powerplants or heating systems.

This Administration must act where it can affect solutions, stabilizing Iraqi oil production, changing laws to improve SS,implementing a better Homeland Security.

Solving the upcoming oil shortage problem is far more difficult, without restricting our auto or aircraft useage which would have huge political fallout effects.

Perhaps it will be left to the next Administration in 2009. And perhaps it is best to let nature take its course, which is for the cost of transportation to become so high that the public becomes willing to accept the risks of building nuclear power plants once again.

To get feel for when the public will accept new nuclear plants, perhaps the next Democratic Presidential contender could promise to build some, and measure the outcry.(g)

Will we let the French outdo us in that area, with 70% of their power being provided by nuclear plants?.
