Well, nuts!!!!!
Doctor's office just called and they asked how I'm doing and I said that I feel like I'm taking 2 steps forward; 1.5 steps back. Any day I feel good enough to go to work, I feel awful the next day and can't work for a day or two.
They said that goes along with what they've found. My blood test came back positive for Mono. They said that even when I'm feeling good, I have to force myself to rest or it's just going to get worse.
  Bad timing.
A perhaps little-known fact is that iHub has been profitable for ages and has reached a stage where it turns a profit every month no matter what we do. The better I do, the more the profit, but if I do nothing, it still makes a profit.
SI isn't so lucky, as it does only about 1/4 the traffic iHub does. It's been profitable every month for a long time, but I have to work my butt off to make it happen. It can't cruise along like iHub does and keep printing black on the PL's.
And February is going to be a particularly weak month because I was too sick in January to make any ad sales, and the agency sales it made in December that it'll be paid for in February won't be enough to post a profit.
No worries big-picture-wise. It has sufficient reserves. It's just that I hate the idea of not posting a profit. HATE IT!!! And that's going to be the case if I don't implement my plans for subscriptions this month and make one or two decent ad sales.
So, Dave? Here's an invitation for some toe-dancing. Wanna take a look at how I handle subscriptions and see if you want to do the actual programming? Actually, it's mostly db entries. But it might take you a while to figure out how I do it.
I'm going to force myself to stay home and not even work from home until at least the end of next week, even if I feel good enough to work. But feel free to call with any questions.
BTW, I happen to feel pretty darned good today. But just like previous days I've worked, I feel myself running very rapidly out of steam.
If what we've discussed about Premium-Plus extensions is too complex for now, I'd like to at least make Lifetime subscriptions available this month, and if I remember correctly, all it takes to do that is to toggle the "isavailable" bit. Double-check it, because I *think* I already put in the logic to subtract the cost of the current subscription level from the cost of the Lifetime upgrade. I'm pretty sure you don't need the "Quarterly/Lifetime" upgrade levels, etc, but if it turns out you do, then the same "isavailable" toggle will probably make those work too. It might literally take seconds to implement. Might take hours. Don't remember.
I'm heading home while I still have some energy reserves.
BTW, this also rather handily explains why I ate more yesterday than I've eaten in over a month yet I still weigh a comparatively svelte 199.5 lbs. I hadn't previously seen the underside of 200 lbs for at least a decade. |
