ENDLESS OUTRAGES…

TKS - (WARNING: ANGRY RANT BELOW) [02/03 11:01 AM]

I said last night on Hugh's program that Thursday morning papers would be the measuring stick, to see if anyone in the mainstream media would pay attention to Eason Jordan's remarks and his bombshell accusation that the U.S. military was targeting journalists in Iraq...

Well, today there’s nothing. And Hugh makes a good point today that there’s plenty for a story now:

<<<
What's to look? Report the controversy: "The ForumBlog said ____. CNN said____. RConversationblog said ____ David Gergen, the moderator, said___. Barney Frank said ___. Eason Jordan was hiding from reporters and no one at Time Warner would comment."
>>>

A lot of news stories like this are essentially quote sandwiches – one quote stacked on another, with explanatory paragraphs in between. There are plenty of angry bloggers and CNN critics, as well as the brief statement from CNN and now Jordan’s comment on Carol Platt Libeau’s blog. Folks, that is all the ingredients you need to write the standard, “a controversy is brewing” story. Heck, Iraqis have been accused of being CIA agents based on less information. (Then again, that is under the shoddy standards of the New York Times.)

Finally, now we learn that individuals with CNN public relations have contacted PowerLine.

So far, they haven’t contacted me. It doesn’t appear they have contacted Captain Ed either, and he’s been blogging up a storm on this.

Pardon this moment of ego tantrum, but what am I, chopped liver? I’m not even worth attempting to spin? Heck, Kerry’s campaign did a better job at trying to get its view out and fair play from a potentially hostile media.

Oh, sure, CNN rubs my nose in it by choosing Andrew Sullivan and Wonkette to give their blogger reaction to Bush’s State of the Union. Sometimes I agree with Sullivan, sometimes I don’t, and I’ll agree he belongs on a short list of blog commentators. Too bad he just took a leave from blogging. As for Wonkette, what, did CNN feel like its previous analysis lacked enough weenie jokes?
