I know, I still have my Leica IIIc and IIIf! But, apples and oranges, I think. Back then, there were mostly little leaps in technology, like the gradual improvement in lens coatings, so there was no reason to introduce a new model all the time. These days, the technology in this area is changing faster than it can be turned into production units, so there is a compelling reason to keep leapfrogging along. While many of these are quantitative changes, e.g., more Mp, rather than something totally new, the rate of change in the quantitative results in a qualitative change. Look how recently Michel couldn't accept some of the limitations of digital and how rapidly those moved to acceptable, then an improvement.
