This is and will be my only public or private comment on this matter, which I have chosen to watch from the sidelines.

I totally agree with you and have been part of the paranoid contingent since moving from Usenet to SI in 2000 to discuss religion and politics. I was on Usenet for about 6 years before that. A wacky ex-girlfriend stalked me through the Internet and actually called me at my home, even though she knew I was married. I'm exposed only through my connection to others who made different choices than I have... On Usenet, I used my real name until I was stalked. At that time it was still possible to expurgate your info. I did. I've never used my real name on SI and my screen name is exactly the same as 2000 when I signed up, following someone who was close to me here.

I like it that way - it is the same reason we have secret ballots and don't have lists of who voted for which candidate. I wouldn't mind arguing with VotedForBush#119 till eternity, but would never cross reference #119 to Bob Smith, <his occupation>, for anyone. Even if I knew how. Which I do.

Bravo, AG.
