Alomex, et al,
A word about selling computers. I kind of fell into it by accident. I was hanging around when about 30 Mac Pluses (from Chiat Day) were being brought in.
The store was shorthanded so the boss asked me if I wanted to work for a week checking out the machines. Soon after, a their regular salesman took a job offer on the West Coast so I took over.
Right now I'm working weekends and a couple of weekdays.
I enjoy selling, I like the product line and I love the range of customers we get. This is Manhattan and *every* race and nationality on the planet has shopped here. Having a fun boss and co-workers doesn't hurt.
What I dislike most is the *unending* learning curve: software, hardware, peripherals, new pricing, old pricing, sales tax, etc. About half the store's revenue comes from service. For those who don't know, retail computing is a tough business.
I'm grateful that Macs are so easy to use; uniform in software operation; and plug-and-play. Also, our service manager is brainiac who eats this stuff up.
Would I sell PCs given the opportunity, given the current state the Wintel product line? No absolutely not. I'd hate it. There are other things I'd rather do for the money.
