Human Rights

By Dean's World

The latest travesty out of the United Nations: Cuba, Zimbabwe, and Saudi Arabia now get to decide which complaints shall be heard this Spring by the UN Human Rights Commission.

Sometimes people ask me why I have so little respect for the United Nations, and why I often scoff at it. But the more I look at it, the more I wonder: who on Earth does think it's such a wonderful thing? Yes they do a few useful things; they compile interesting statistics, and once in a while they coordinate useful humanitarian or monitoring operations.

But really, is there anything we task them with now that couldn't be done better, cheaper, and more efficiently by another organization? One that, just perhaps, only allowed member nations which allow free speech, free press, freedom of religion, and universal suffrage?
