Ya know, this guys has been prominent in the news for about two years, and I can't recall ever hearing an explanation as to why he has two names. Mahmoud Abbas is his given name, and Abu Mazen is his nom de guerre... many Arab leaders tend to have them. Its because many Arab leaders are fathers. I think it has to do with the birth of child. I believe Abu Mazen means the father of Mazen who would be his first born son. ted
