07-Feb-05 12:58 ET In Play IBIS chatter (IBIS) 3.16 +0.36 : The stock's strength is attributed to a Financial Times article highlighting IBM, Sony (SNE) and Toshiba's unveiling of a "supercomputer on a chip" called a Cell microprocessor this week at the International Solid State Circuits Conference in San Francisco. According to the Nikkei Electronics Asia Feb 2005 issue, this conference is scheduled to include at least five papers on CELL. The online publication notes all five papers are based on 90nm-rule silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology. IBIS makes a form of SOI called SIMOX or Separation by IMplantation of Oxygen. In addition, IBIS attributed more than 92% of its revs in 2003 solely to IBM and has a joint development agreement with IBM. Traders are speculating this conference will bode well for the co in light of its relationship with IBM and exposure to the silicon-on-insulator technology being showcased by desginers from IBM, Sony and Toshiba.
