I think your idea is okay as far as it goes, but I also think you would have to find a way to certify the dust was collected prior to the rubble demolition projects. Even assuming you hit the jackpot and found traces of explosive residue after over 3 years, how would you be able to show those traces came from 9/11 and not from demolition projects in the days and months following? A quick search using "WTC air tests" came up with these results: search.yahoo.com I've only had a chance to skim a few of the articles. From what I can tell, a lot of the hits deal with asbestos, but I vaguely recall that there were more comprehensive analysis done on the dust content somewhere along the line. I remember seeing articles dealing with elevated sulfur levels in the dust, which has never been explained, so I'm wondering if there is more information somewhere on exactly what all was found in the dust samples. Although I sincerely doubt black powder would be used in a demolition project, as it's just barely considered an explosive by today's standards, it might be worth noting that black powder is 10%-15% sulfur. Anyhow, just tossing out some thoughts off the top of my head. My first impression is if there are any "smoking guns" in dust samples, the place to start would be by going over the official results taken immediately after the attacks.
