" Nothing guarantees that." My point. John is correct about the automatic reduction in payouts. It was written into the original law. I can only find pdf files so far... It is called Social Security Insurance for a reason. It isn't an investment plan, it is a minimal guarantee so retirees don't have to subsist on dog food. There are other vehicles for investment, they should be used for that.
