"But your main point is correct. The number of people in the United States who are employed amounts to a little over 140 million people, which is less than growth (in the working age population). Which is why the unemployment rate is higher today than January 2001." Yes. That was all that I pointed out originally --- and which JDN seemed to have difficulty believing: the current US population is nearing 300 million... an addition of about 3 million per annum... and the demographics of that require annual job growth of approximately 2 million to hold the employed percentage of our population the same.
