NY Times Ignores High Bush Approval Rating

Bob Kohn

USA Today reported that President Bush's approval rating has jumped up to 57%, his highest since he reached 59% in January 2004, shortly after U.S. troops captured Saddam Hussein. In addition,

In reversals from a month ago, majorities now say that going to war in Iraq was not a mistake, that things are going well there and that it's likely democracy will be established in Iraq.

One of the ways the New York Times manipulates the news is with opinion polls.
(For more details, see that wonderful book, Journalistic Fraud). One of their more powerful tools is the timing of those polls. When the news is good for Bush, we will either not see the Times reporting an opinion poll at all or they'll focus on a completely different topic in a way the extracts answers that will show how the public disapproves of one Bush administration policy or another.

Where was the New York Times poll on President Bush's State of the Union address?

According to the latest CBS poll, 80% of the American public agreed with the proposals that President Bush set forth in his State of the Union address. Can you believe it? 80 fricken-percent--which included 98% of Republicans, 79% of independents, and even 58% of Democrats.

Now, CBS typically conducts these polls in conjunction with the New York Times, but the Times didn't put their name on this one. Wonder why?
