I don't think this is a valid argument for redistribution of wealth. If the money weren't given to the old folks to spend, then the young folks contributing it would have the money to spend. The job market is dependent on money being spent. Doesn't matter who spends it.

1. People retired often are assisting their younger children.

Likewise, this. If the working children didn't have to pay so much in taxes to support transfers to their parents, they wouldn't need the same help from their parents.
