When folks are vested, terrorists cant function.

I'm not so sure about that, Mike.

I have read an interesting book which has confirmed one of my unarticulated thoughts, namely, that terrorists are for the most part composed of the well-treated and economically well-off scions of relatively affluent families. The book, Understanding Terror Networks, is written by Marc Sageman and is well worth reading.

Sageman concentrates on the Al Qaeda bunch, and has little to say about Hamas and Hizbollah, which may very well have different dynamics since they are in a much different fight than OBL, et al.

I suppose that this is a long-winded way of saying that different groups have different dynamics. Affluence did not keep OBL from becoming radicalized, but it might be different for a Palestinian who has been robbed of economic opportunity by his own leaders.
