a) money is needed to continue in Iraq and prepare for Iran.
b) because of continual alienation, Europe and the other developed countries are reluctant to work with the US on anything.
c) making current tax cuts permanent and adding new tax cuts means there is a greater need for money.
d) because they aren't very high profile, basic international police work, badly hampered by b) anyway, is cut back even further to pay for a) and c).
e) It becomes entirely possible to load a Nagasaki style bomb in a standard shipping container, off load in any port in the US and truck it to any given destination without fear of anyone being wiser...


Its another version of the nuke-in-a-suitcase scenario. A while back, I read an article by some military expert who said the nuke in a suitcase is unlikely. Apparently, they are difficult to transport. However, the dirty bomb he thought was very doable. I can't remember the particulars.
