The US could not stop terrorists in Iraq -- and yet we had elections. And those elected represent the people of Iraq. The terrorists represent a profoundly unhappy minority. The same is true of Palestinians. Now, in Iraq, we refused to let the minority, the terrorists, derail the democractic process, despite the inability of the US to control or prevent terror in Iraq. There should be no double standard. Hamas in no way shape or form speaks for the Palestinians. And if they, or anybody else manages to do something stupid, it should provide no more valid reason to stop the peace process than terror in Iraq should have stopped the elections.
