I pretty much don't agree.

The oil for food scandal pretty much exonerates the United States from the responsibility of any starving Iraqi children. Further, almost the moment Albright made the statement, she knew she said something incorrect and tried to correct her statement. Instead of buying food and medicines with the money he had available to him, Saddam bought UN (and other) Officials, palaces, and construction projects meant to exterminate the Marsh Arabs.

The United States has been the world's largest economy for a 100 years. During much of this period, Americans have been fighting and dying for the freedom of other peoples (for 90 years now). Americans did not die in WWI to control European natural resources or markets. Americans did not die in World War II to expand markets, or territory, or to gain control of the natural resources of the German or Japanese Empires. One can argue about the reason Americans fought in Korea or Vietnam, but the reasons were not to oppress, colonize or gain control of the natural resources of the Koreans or Vietnamese. Americans did not die in Somolia or Beruit to take over those countries and corner the natural resources of either of those countries. And Americans did not fight and die in Iraq, for the control of that Nation's natural resources. No nation has ever spent so much in resources and lives in the attempt to spread liberty and freedom in the world than the United States of America.
