I suppose that makes sense for young girls. It can be a pretty brutal read and the ending may give them some relief or hope- and maybe I have forgotten what is important to 16 year olds!
For me, it lacked the honesty I felt in the rest of the book. As if she needed to tie everything up with the best of a happy ending as she could contrive. I felt manipulated and -hm- even embarrassed by it.
But I loved the rest of the book enough to get over it.
If grainne liked that, I bet she would love a lot of the books we read! Maybe she needs to give up that Books That Improve Me list and join our new, Read For Pure Pleasure.
