[Dead before arrival<g>]--"BankAsh Trojan Hobbles MS AntiSpyware"
February 10, 2005
By Pedro Hernandez

Microsoft's release of its beta AntiSpyware app may have attracted the wrong kind of attention. According to Sophos, a new worm that specifically targets the company's spyware busting software is making the rounds.

BankAsh takes aim at Microsoft's AntiSpyware product currently in beta.
The BankAsh-A trojan, warns Sophos, was not only engineered to steal passwords for UK banking sites, it also contains code that seeks out MS AntiSpyware installs, deletes registry entries and program files, and suppresses warnings, effectively silencing the application.

Albeit cunningly destructive, this type of malware is not new.
