I have always been AMUSED by Holocaust denial, because my late father was serving in the armored-infantry brigade that captured Mauthausen in Austria, a few days before the end of the war in Europe. Over the decades he spoke occasionally of the horrifying scenes that demobilized hard-eyed veteran troops from all over Third Army (he was involved in transporting many to their required walk-throughs, which were the price of admission to the more-pleasant Berchtesgarten tour) that had these tough veterans sitting on the roadway outside the BACK gate, crying, and trying to come to terms with such overt and voluminous inhumanity. Whatever they did with the rest of their lives, I doubt ANY of them EVER forgot even the smallest detail of what they saw.

After he passed away, I read the section of the 11th Armored Division's official history that described the day the GI's discovered Mauthausen. Even that dry text is enough to bring tears to the eyes.

Suffice it to say that the 11th has almost all gone to rest, but that they kept the charity organization, Friends of Mauthausen, alive and well as long as even a few of them could still stand a post.

Holocaust denial has no future, as it marks its adherents as intellectual and moral dulliards at best...
