Fradkov confirms govt plans to raise salaries, pensions ...

MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax) - The Russian government's main task for the next few years is to solve social problems, including by increasing salaries and pensions by the middle of 2008, Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov said at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday.

"This entails additional commitments in the sphere of economic growth and institutional transformations," he said.

The efficiency of market institutions must be increased, as well, Fradkov said.

"There was a very serious and tough discussion of the government's activities at yesterday's session of the State Duma," he said. "The conclusion I made and conveyed to the deputies is that we must focus on the solution of social problems and a targeted revenue policy," he said.
