There are no memory controllers on Intel's current CPUs, either single or dual core.


That was my point, although I did not express it very clearly.

The Intel cores will have to talk off-chip to coordinate memory access. This will slow down the process. They can try to mitigate the problem with additioanl caches, but it will still negate most of the advantages of using dual processors.

The AMD design has both cores and a memory controller integrated into the chip. This allows processor coherency to be maintained much more efficiently.
