He was a good guy, though we disagreed about a lot of things. He put a lot of thought into what he said, and he was very charitable in forgiving insults and slights when things got heated.

I tended to avoid the boards where he posted, not because I wanted to avoid Neocon, but because Neocon was a person I really didn't want to be on bad terms with. As much as I might disagree with him on some matters, I always had the sense that he was honest and well-meaning in everything he said or did.

And he was a damned good writer.
